— Welcome, to the GUN show. — Welcome to the GUN show. — From the mountain province in the Philippines, — [Both] Welcome to the GUN show. (intense music) — Welcome to the GUN show. This week we recount our cycling highlights from the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, and try to see if we can't find the future of cycling tech. — Plus, back in the real world, we've got roundups of all the National Championships that took place at the weekend, both Cyclocross and road. And, of course, we've got all of your usual favorites: cycling shorts, hacks and bodges. — Yeah, which may or may not include stuff that we've dug out from the Consumer Electronic Show. — And which will not include this paper bike, that's currently doing the rounds on Kickstarter. — Will not include, but perhaps should, Tom. Is that a hack or a bodge? — I think time will tell— — I think rain might tell, on that bike. — The Consumer Electronic Show takes place every year in Las Vegas, and it's the place for tech brands to launch their new products. Until very recently, this would have been of pretty much no-consequence for us, as cyclists, but at CES this year, the show was awash with smart-bike tech. — Yeah, smart bikes, smart helmets, smart backpacks, even smart indoor trainers for children. There was so much smart, in fact, that we thought we would have to just pick out our highlights and then try and work out what this means for the future of cycling. — But if we take it a step back, what does smart actually mean? Well, basically, smart tech is tech that has IT in it and that communicates. So, in cycling, you might communicate with your mobile phone, it might communicate with your computer, or it might communicate directly with the internet. And we're already pretty familiar with this sort of tech with things like power meters and GPS units, too. But what does it take for a bike to be truly smart? Well, for that to happen, this tech needs to be integrated into the bike. Take the Speed Unicorn for example, which has, we hear, the first-ever, fully-integrated power meter in a production road bike. — Yeah, and that is actually now available for pre-order on Kickstarter. But, will this change your cycling? No. As Tom said, the tech already exists, but definitely the good bit, is that it should make your bike significantly neater, and indeed, make it cheaper. Although, there was actually a smart bike on display at CES, from Leech, which had built-in laser beams on your handle bars. How cool is that? Who wouldn't want laser beams on their handle bars? (Tom making laser buzzing sound) — What about a smart helmet, then? Well, the Corps Line is a helmet that has built-in bone-conducting headphones. These bone-conducting headphones link up to your phone, so you can take phone calls on the go and listen to your music while you're riding along. And, for some people, I think this is definitely a huge step forward. — Yeah! — But, in my opinion, definitely not one for group rides. You don't...
